Welcome friends, suspects & victims!

You are cordially invited to dinner...
...with a side of homicide!

The motives are spicy, revenge would be sweet, and the main course is a deadly dose of murder. As your evening in high society unfolds, you will find clues to... and may even partake in... some decidedly unsociable acts. But never mind! There’s the delicious scent of devilry in the air. Blackmail? Larceny? Murder?

Get it while it’s hot!

The Death of a Railsman

It’s a hilariously twisted plot set in the Roaring 20’s in the Wild West! An unscrupulous railroad baron has gathered an unsavory collection of strangers for dinner at the Montana Hotel for no apparent reason other than to humiliate them.

But there’s more to the evening, more to the Baron, and more to the guests than meets the eye. The Baron challenges his guests to steal a priceless jewel prominently displayed in the room... and to commit a murder, with the Baron himself in the starring role as the victim!

Is there any among them up to the challenge? You must be joking! That’s just the beginning, and there’s no telling where it will end!

How 'bout dinner and a murder?

Interested in an entertaining evening with a laugh-out-loud story, a delicious dinner, and a side of homicide? Here’s the bird’s-eye lowdown on that caper:

Each "Side of Homicide: package includes:

  • Overnight lodging at Ghost Rails Inn B&B

  • A luxurious dinner for fourteen players served throughout the mystery party

  • A tasty breakfast for all overnight guests

  • Consultation as needed with the party planner

  • Timely email communication with each player, including his or her character’s name, description and history, as well as confidential details, secrets and motives

  • And, of course, the murder mystery itself! A full evening’s entertainment for fourteen players who are all actors and audience, trying to hide their own secrets while they discover others. The plots are twisted, the lines are hilarious, and the improvs are as unpredictable as your own sense of humor.

Sound interesting? You get all this - dinner, lodging, breakfast, and an evening you will never forget - for fourteen friends, all for just

$175.00 per couple!

How it works:

  • Your first task is to find fourteen people (preferably seven couples) who are ready and willing to act and improvise their way through an outlandish story with over-the-top characters and unpredictable twists and turns.

  • One of your group is then designated as the party planner. He or she will coordinate all of the details with Thom and Grace, including the lodging arrangements, menu, and careful pairing of personalities to roles.

  • About a week before the party, each player will receive a confidential email with a full character description. You are encouraged to develop your character as far as you’d like, including a costume, accent, habits and ticks, and anything else you’d like to add to the fun.

When You Arrive

  • You arrive at Ghost Rails Inn as yourself, and relax until the entire cast has assembled. If necessary, Thom and Grace will give one last orientation to the Inn and the mystery party. When all of your questions have been answered, you all check in to your rooms upstairs. When you come back downstairs, you are no longer yourself. You are your character!

The Play’s The Thing

  • Whatever happens, improvise! Be your character! Start conversations, answer questions, move around, have fun!

  • Thom will be in the room with you for the entire evening. He is the Director. Do whatever he says, but pretend he isn’t there. There actually is a plot, and Thom keeps it moving. Sometimes he will hand you a card. Read it discreetly and do what it says. At other times he will hand you and one or two others a script. These are to be read aloud immediately, while the rest of the players become the audience. It is through these cards and scripts that the story unfolds and the dastardly deed is done.

  • If you are instructed to do something better kept to yourself, like steal something or kill someone, do it at a time and in a way that you won’t get caught. From that point until after you all try to decide "whodunit" it is your job not to get caught. Do whatever you can to cast suspicion on someone else while denying any guilt yourself.

  • If you are unlucky enough to be murdered yourself, well, that’s life. Ham it up, and drop dead!

Après Murder

  • When the dinner and the body are cold, dessert will be served. That signals the end of the game. You are no longer your character, you are yourself once again.

  • Everyone at the table, whether dead or alive, will now talk amongst yourselves. Who did "it"? Who did what? And perhaps the most difficult question, why?

  • Remember - if you are the culprit, it is still your job to get away with it! Deny everything, and throw the guilt anywhere it will stick. If you can concoct a convincing story that will put another player in the slammer, do it!

  • When you’ve all made up your minds, whether you agree or not, Thom will reveal what really happened.

Game Over

  • You and your friends are welcome to enjoy our comfortable parlor and dining room, visit the local tavern, or take a moonlit walk in the park. Make yourself at home!

  • Your comfortable, quiet, and uniquely decorated rooms await when you are ready for a good night’s sleep

  • In the morning, wake up to the smell of freshly ground coffee and a scrumptious breakfast.
